KSPCA - April 25th, 2012

On Wednesday, April 25th, I went to the KSPCA again to help out.
This time there were only five people on the bus, and I thought this was more fun because we connected and worked together better.
When we got to the KSPCA we went round the cages and stroked and played with the puppies a bit. They had all grown a lot, and some which we had known since that were tiny had been adopted and taken away. There were also new puppies and kittens, who all looked extremely skinny and still had a haunted look in their eyes.
When we were done we went into one of the enclosures and helped the guys working there dish out the food to the dogs. The house smelt really bad, but it was worth it to see the happiness of the dogs as they wolfed into their dinner.
I was given the camera and I went around taking photos of the dogs and the other group members interacting with them. This was hard because at that point my hands were covered in dog food and dirt, and I had to sprint to the bathroom to wash them off quickly.
One of the staff took me over to a huge basin filled with dirty dog bowls. He handed me a scrubbing brush and told me to wash them all! Since I'm vegetarian this was really disgusting, the food was slimy and even with the tap on at a full blast it wouldn't wash off easily. But I reminded myself that I did come here to help, and help I would!
At the end of the day our shoes were coated with mud, we were covered in dog hair, but we all felt great about how much we'd helped out. The KSPCA people gave us all a free calender,  and I slept on the bus ride back.
This was one of the best trips to the KSPCA that I've had so far, and I learned a lot about what these dogs experience every day and that I should never give up at trying to help. I also feel like the dogs at the shelter and me are getting to know each other a lot better, and this drives me to help them.
"There is no greater sin than he who did nothing because he could only do a little".
I can't wait for my next trip!!
