Mt Longonot Climb
In January, 2012 the 9th grade climbed Mt Longonot for the second time. We had to be at school by 6:30-7:00 in the morning, and we got back at around 4-5 pm. This time up we had to carry our bags for Mt Kenya, fully packed (if possible). Before we started to walk two people gave us a briefing about what to pack in our bags, and appropriate clothes to wear up the mountain etc. Unlike the last time we climbed it was very sunny and hot, and everyone was really tired by the time we were halfway up. When we reached the rim everyone thought we would be heading back down, but the teachers told us that we were now required to climb to the very highest peak. Me and a friend started walking together, and made it to the summet, but about half the grade turned back halfway because of exhaustion. When we were going down the mountain my toes were being squished into my shoes, and they ached a lot. When we got back to the bus I was limping and felt like I was going to collapse on the spot. This gave me a good idea of how I was going to feel on Mt Kenya. It also told me how much my bag should weigh, and what I should pack.
